The Sydney Swans avenge themselves following last years after the siren loss against the Tigers with a win at the MCG, beating the Tigers by 9 points in front of a strong crowd of 58,721.

The Tigers came storming out of the blocks, kicking the first 6 goals of the game, but were unable to hold out the lead until the final siren, with the Swans slowly yet steadily clawing back at the first quarter deficit. The fast flowing Tigers were restricted by the Swans come the start of the second quarter, in which the Swans started to gain back control of the game. The second tier swans stepped up to kick crucial goals in crucial parts of the game to hand their team the win. Tiger action was almost non existent, with the Tigers only managing to kick 1 of the last 9 goals in the game. Richmond went into the final quarter ahead by almost 3 goals, but this lead wasn’t enough to play out the game. Goals to Papley, Kennedy and Rohan allowed for the Swans to take out the game eventual winners.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick commented on a lack of experience after the game. “We’re a young side, these things can happen, but I have no doubt we will learn from these losses and move on to be a better side”.

Swans coach John Longmire praised his team. “Being 6 goals down so early was a concern, but credit to the guys, we kept persisting, and came away with the win”.

Richmond face the Carlton Blues at the MCG next Sunday Afternoon in what seems to be an interesting game as the Blues head back to Melbourne after a comprehensive win.

Sydney face the Essendon Bombers at the SCG.
