Both Stars Share the Points
Broadmeadows Stars senior women’s team faced Heidelberg Stars SC at Cartledge Reserve in Ivanhoe this past Sunday.
The Broadmeadows Stars begun the game on Cartledge Reserve with only 9 players on the field, making their fight for a fourth consecutive win even more challenging with their opponents. Heidleburg started kick off with being position north.
The first goal was scored within the first ten minutes by the opposition which was received by a roar of cheers. Broadmeadows tried their best to defend off the strikers but it was not enough to stop them from scoring.
This fired the spirits of the Broadmeadows Stars and gave them the momentum to score their first goal of the game which was assisted by duygu where the ball rebounded off the defenders of the opposing side and into the back of the net.
There were a fair amount of intercepts made from both sides as the pressure was on to score another goal and secure the lead. Many attempts were made by Heidleburg Stars, however they were perplexed by the offside rule. The midfielders were pushed to the limits as pressure was applied from both sides that left most of the game within the centre of the field.
Within the second half the Stars managed to push through with a pass to Selcan who managed to grab a much needed goal. This brought the game into the Broadmeadows Stars advantage of 2-1.
An injury occurred for the stars as defender Elif twisted her ankle that cause her to be sidelined for the rest of the game. To add more to the misery a penalty was given to Heidleburg Stars as a handball was called. Stars goalkeeper Enise was put to the test but missed the ball by a few centimetres, resulting in equal scores of 2-2.
Motivated forward Selin, had attempted on many occasions to clear the ball and go on a run however she was unable to do it all on her own. Selin was able to dribble past a few defenders with ease however she was swamped with too much attention and could not get passed the rest of Heidelberg’s defence to have a clear shot on goal. This defensive pressure proved to much as no more goals were obtained and the referee called the final whistle.
This is Broadmeadows Stars second draw to the season, and add to the amazing streak. This adds another point to the existing 10 points and will help to remain in 8th position on the leader board.
Next week the senior girls have a bye, that will give them some well deserved rest. They will return on the 16th July, at Progress reserve to verse Darebin United at 3pm.
