Yıldızspor make it 3 in a row

The Darebin Falcons and Broadmeadows Stars went head to head in what was anticipated to be an outstanding battle for 3 points in the Women’s State 4 North competition. It seemed to be a gloomy day but it being Eid; a day of celebration for the Stars. This made for the perfect atmosphere for a soccer game, as the girls wanted to add to the celebrations with a win.

The Falcons kicked off with the ball and were attacking towards the north end of the ground and had to contend with the sun in the first half.

It seemed to be an even playing field as both teams had begun to make effective possessions that would create goals scoring opportunities however they weren’t executed and the game remained scoreless for the first half an hour.

The breakthrough goal came from the feet of a speedster forward Selin who was able to zoom pass the opponent to score a magnificent goal. That calmed the voices arising from the coaches box. The game remained within the midfield as there were many interceptions from both sides. The midfield engines made some effective plays with Gözde and Duygu playing key passes through to create many attempts  towards goal, but the stars couldn’t capitalise on the good work of the midfield. Stars’ winger Beyza took an acrobatic volley to almost score however the Falcons’ keeper was on to it and produced an equally incredible save.

A yellow card was pulled out for Star’s Elif who had been too aggressive as she brought her opponent down. The Falcons  applied some pressure and had the key defenders Bilgehan and Dilara made to work and keep on their toes to keep the Falcon’s attack at bay. The stars managed to get another goal against the run of play as Selin broke away and scored from a counter attack.

The Falcons continued to pile on the pressure and deflection from the knee had given the opportunity to the Falcons to achieve their first ever goal. The game was then getting interesting with the scores locked in at 2-1 in favour of the Stars. The Falcons drove into gear and some amazing saves were produced by Goal Keeper Enise. The Falcons came close to equalling if it weren’t for left back Yasemin who got a foot in just in the nick of time and saved a certain goal.

The stars then broke away from then onwards as defender Selcan made a move up forward and the move paid off as she scored her first goal of the season. This was the beginning of an excellent run by the stars as Selin got her hat-trick and the stars were flying. Selcan got her second goal and then to put salt in the wounds of the Darebin side an own goal was scored by the Falcon’s Goal Keeper.

The game ended with a one sided score of 6-1 and although both teams had numerous chances the Stars made the most of their chances.

The stars now have won 3 matches in a row and are slowly moving up the ladder. They now sit 8th which is a massive improvement from being last 5 weeks ago and now face the 12th placed Heidelberg Stars next week (2/7) at Cartledge Reserve at 11:30.
